The Colores de Calcuta Foundation is committed to human rights and to the development of individuals and communities living in situations of vulnerability, exclusion and poverty, with particular attention given to children. Living conditions in the neighbourhood of Pilkhana in Kolkata are extremely harsh: precarious infrastructure, families living in shanty towns or unsafe buildings with substandard housing, without electricity, ventilation or water. High levels of pollution, lack of hygiene, limited access to clean water, malnutrition, and the physically demanding jobs carried out by residents all have serious consequences for their health. Moreover, existing public resources are insufficient, with only two hospitals serving approximately 4.8 million inhabitants, and one in every two children suffering from malnutrition. This situation has worsened since the pandemic began in 2020. The Nuria García Foundation is once again collaborating with the Colores de Calcuta Foundation, improving the medical conditions of 60 children by funding the salary of a paediatrician, a nurse, a physiotherapist, and the medication provided in the paediatric unit over a 12-month period.
