Health and nutrition program in Cuzco, Peru
With Amantani Association
With Amantani Association

For the past 25 years, the Amantaní Association has focused its work on four residential homes that provide comprehensive care and shelter to babies, children and adolescents without family protection. These children are referred through the Special Protection Unit, Family Courts, Public Prosecutors and the National Police of Peru. State-run centres are very limited, making the care of children in situations of family neglect an urgent need. Poverty exacerbates issues such as gender-based violence, sexual abuse, abandonment, child maltreatment, maternal mortality, child labour, begging, addiction problems, and more. Since 2019, the Nuria García Foundation has ensured healthcare for the babies, children and adolescents housed in the Amantaní shelters in Cusco. The funding covers home visits by a paediatrician, laboratory tests and diagnostics, consultations with specialists and hospitalisations, physical therapy, medication, oxygen, eye care, glasses, and dental services, as well as the purchase of balanced nutrition for the care of 50 children.

Community family centre equipment in Guatemala

With Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos Foundation

We have once again joined forces with the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) Foundation on a new project to launch the Padre Wasson Community Family Centre, located in a conflict-affected area of Chimaltenango. The centre will provide education, healthcare, nutrition and training services to families in need from the surrounding area. The renovation of a three-storey building that houses the family centre has now been completed, and a multidisciplinary team of professionals has been hired, specialising in educational psychology, physical and occupational therapy, youth and community development. The Nuria García Foundation is funding all the centre’s equipment. The beneficiaries of the programme are highly vulnerable children, young people and single-parent families, who will receive academic tutoring and support, shelter, diagnosis, therapy and integration services for children with disabilities, as well as psychosocial and vocational development. A total of 300 people with no resources — mostly indigenous children — will benefit from the programme. These children live in conditions of extreme poverty, without basic sanitation, in violent and dangerous environments, and face food insecurity and malnutrition.
