Educating for a future Guatemala

With Vita Mundi Association

Managed by the Vita Mundi association and the Sant Ana Sisters of Charity, this project is being developed at the «Ratz’Um k’Iche» Women’s Promotion Center (flower of the forest), located in the village of Boloncó, municipality of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapaz Department, Guatemala. The Nuria García Foundation funds part of the cost of a year of their training.

The training and education center aimed at indigenous women was created in 1997. In it, an educational opportunity is offered to those women without economic resources, attended by the Sisters of Charity of Santa Ana, who have carried out important work in the field of education and development of indigenous women. It was built 20 years ago seeing that many families did not see the education of their daughters as important. It is a reference center for the indigenous communities in the area (one of the poorest and with the highest illiteracy rate in Central America).

The Nuria García Foundation has financed part of the cost of one year of training the 158 girls and tweens who live in the Alta Verapaz educational center and are training for a better future.

If you want to know a little more about the day-to-day life of the center and hear the testimony of some of the students, watch this video:
